BC Card revealed on April 7 that it had held a ceremony to commemorate its 26th anniversary with 300 guests, including BC Card people. In a keynote speech, President Chang Hyung-Duk said, “Our 26-year history has been marked by a clear trajectory toward becoming the best credit card processing company in the world.”
“In order for us to keep growing in spite of difficult challenges, we have to do the following: first, we need to reorganize our internal processes to respond to the fast-changing business environment and mounting competition; second, we have to work hard to improve our internal communication, to share our vision and strategic objectives; and third, we must open our mind to change and renewal whilst embracing self-improvement.”
He also stressed “Everyone at BC Card is the hero in this epic struggle to open a bright future. Based on the sense of confidence we have gained from our 26-year history, let us face the new challenges.”
In the ceremony, several employees were given citations, including those serving the company for a long time, those who had shown good performance, and those committed to volunteer activities.
On this occasion, the company announced a new corporate identity for the first time in 18 years. The new design enhanced the contrast of the red sphere symbolizing BC Card while removing the sphere’s shadow.
Park Sang-Jin, Senior PR Manager at BC Card, said, “We tried to embody our pursuit of excellence and a progressive future in the new logo design. I believe the friendly image of the new logo will effectively represent our corporate spirit to become the best partner for our customers.”
BC Card was started in 1982 when five commercial banks (at that time, the Chohung, Sangup, First, Hanil, and Seoul Banks) jointly established a bank credit card association. It changed its name in 1987 to BC Card, becoming today by far the biggest credit card company in Korea with 11 member banks, 34 million card accounts, 42 million cards issued, and 2.5 million member merchants.
■ The New Logo Design of BC Card
Whilst the existing design put emphasis on a beautiful visual image, the new logo reflects the assertiveness of BC Card in becoming the trend-maker in the credit card business. The red sphere, the symbol of a perfect entity, represents the reliability of BC Card’s service. The 3D nature of the design signifies the progressive attitude toward change and the future actively pursued by BC Card.
■ 26-Year History of BC Card in Numbers
Note: 1. The numbers of card members, member merchants, approvals, and approval amounts are as of February 2008. 2. The annual transaction amount is the sum of credit card purchases (domestic and international) and cash advances in the year 2007.
