BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae, www.bccard.com) held a ceremony in which it donated some of the cost saved money from No-receipt system (hereafter “Paperless System”) for the last year to the fund for environmental protection.

In the ceremony, which took place at 11 AM in Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, Yeo, Jae-sung, the chief of processing headquarter in BC Card, Yoon, Seung-joon, the director of Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, and other relevant personnel were present. The donated fund would be used to expand the sustainable cultures of consumption such as green sharing and green consumption campaign, etc. for the support to low-income class.

Recently, the environment for credit card payment has adopted more various digital receipts such as real-time SMS service for notifying the details of credit card payment, mobile receipts, and receipt re-printing service on the website of credit card company, etc., which have substituted for the conventional paper-based receipts. So, there have been fewer customers who felt the need to have paper-based receipts from member stores.

On the other hand, with the increase in the number of credit card payment, the cost of receipts has been on the sharp rise, so the total cost related to sales voucher issued by all the credit card companies amounts to about 53 billion KRW per year. Also, the receipts are all imported from overseas in which requires the reform of the situation even in terms of national economy.

In order to improve such a drawback, BC Card is currently operating Paperless System, which started from last year. It is designed to issue the receipts only to members or stores requiring paper receipts for apparent reasons as well as to avoid the unnecessary printing of receipts.

Yeo, Jae-sung, the chief of processing headquarters in BC Card, mentioned that compared to the last year when it was not long since Paperless System has been adopted, he expected to see the sharp increase in the amount of donated fund for environmental protection this year once system settles down. He also added that by decreasing the number of cases when the unnecessary receipts are issued, the company would continue to fulfill its CSR by the program for public interest, which is beneficial in two ways by saving environmental resources and returning the earned profits to the society.
