BC Card(CEO Suh, Joon-Hee, www.bccard.com) revealed on the 8th that in collaboration with Union Pay International and Shilla Duty-free Shop, it would open UPMP(UnionPay Mobile Payment), a mobile payment service by which for Chinese customers to purchase Korean products by using their smart phones.
Chinese customers who have UnionPay cards can buy the products anytime and anywhere with ease and convenience, thanks to UPMP service, which has been jointly developed for the past 3 months by BC Card, UnionPay International, and Shilla Duty-free Shop. They only needed to connect to the websites or applications of mobile shopping service in Chinese from Shilla Duty-free Shop.
The service, first included in the application and website of Shilla Duty-free Shop, will accelerate mobile shopping activities of Chinese customers, who have recently emerged as big buyers in Korea. The number of customers in China using Internet/ mobile payment service of UnionPay has actually exceeded 150 million. According to the data released by Korea Tourism Organization, Chinese tourists account for 52.1%, more than half of all the foreign travelers visiting Korea as of August 2014. Also, by the end of this year, it is expected that there will be more than 6 million Chinese tourists visiting Korea annually. So, the opening of UPMP service is expected to make a significant contribution to increasing sales of member stores in Korea.
BC Card plans to make the utmost effort to invite mobile shopping malls selling products and services to Chinese customers to the member stores of UnionPay, starting the application and website for mobile shopping mall of Shilla Duty-free Shop.
Yeo, Jae-sung, the chief of sales and marketing in BC Card, made clear that ‘BC Card would expand shopping activities of Chinese customers in Korea by further vitalizing Internet / mobile payment service based on know-hows and technologies that have been amassed by handling business for purchase by UnionPay cards for the past 10 years.
