Title Payment without plastic card made possible around the globe Date 2016.06.28

Mobile QuickPass card, an easy-to-use mobile payment service provided in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia and more, will become a more familiar and widely-used service in Korea. This technology enables BC UnionPay cardholders to pay for goods at merchants equipped UnionPay QuickPass terminals around the world without a plastic card, as long as they have their smartphone with them.

BC Card (President and CEO, Joon Hee Suh, www.bccard.com) held a HCE QuickPass launching ceremony with KT and UnionPay International (UPI) on June 28th.

The ceremony was held in China UnionPay’s headquarters in Shanghai China. KT CEO Chang Gyu Hwang, BC Card CEO Joon Hee Suh, China UnionPay Chairman Ge Huayong and UPI Chief Representative of North East region Bomee Sheng were present at the event.

QuickPass is a payment service developed by China’s biggest card company UPI. It enables customers to pay for goods with a simple touch-and-pay method. (The method involves customer placing their QuickPass card near a terminal and signing the electronic sign pad) Due to its convenience, its usage is increasing in Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and more. Currently in China, more than 7 million terminals (that accept QuickPass cards) are deployed in merchants such as Starbucks, McDonalds, Seven Eleven, etc.

BC Card began issuing USIM QuickPass cards from last August, and has decided to add HCE QuickPass this year. HCE method guarantees security by storing card data in smartphone’s cloud storage and utilizing one-time temporary password (token) during payment. With the introduction of HCE QuickPass, customers are given more diverse QuickPass card payment options.

Cardholders may easily apply for HCE QuickPass through diverse channels including BC Card homepage, application programs, etc. and start using the card directly after registering it on Mobile ISP (mISP). Former cardholders can begin using HCE QuickPass after instant application via mISP and also through KT’s app CliP.

KT CEO Chang Gyu Hwang who attended the ceremony stated, "I hope this marks a start for Korea and China’s cooperation in co-developing the fin-tech industry. We intend to lead this industry by merging finance with KT Group’s latest ICT solutions in big data, biometric certification, etc. Also we hope to increase convenience in people’s everyday lives through development of fin-tech technology."

CEO of BC Card, Joon Hee Suh stated, "China has shown a big increase in NFC mobile usage, including that of QuickPass Card. Thanks to the partnership between KT, BC Card and UPI, BC Card cardholders visiting China will be able to pay for goods without their wallet nor their plastic card, but solely with their smartphones."

In order to celebrate the launch of HCE QuickPass, there will be a promotional event – up to 100 customers, who have used over 50K KRW in China from August 1st to 31st, will be given a mobile coupon worth 30K KRW.
