BC Card opens marketplace to support artists

  • Hold an event in Cheonggyecheon to support and build market for creative artists every Saturday until October 22nd
  • Plans to help sell handcraft, calligraphy and other creative objets, and support social enterprises by operating donation-receiving card terminals
  • Provide citizens an opportunity to engage in diverse cultural experiences and for artists to sell goods in a bigger market

BC Card (President and CEO, Joon Hee Suh, www.bccard.com) has announced on September 4th that it will open a cultural marketplace to support artists.

This event is to be held in Cheonggyecheon car-free street (from Mojeon Bridge to Gwangtong Bridge) every Saturday until October 22nd and will be comprised of more than 70 participating teams selling and putting up shows: ▲ handcraft ▲ calligraphy and portraits ▲ food ▲ busking performances and so on

The launching ceremony was held during BC Card’s ‘Freemarket Saranghae’ event on October 3rd, attended by President of BC Card, Mr. Joon Hee Suh and President of Living & Arts Creative Center, Mr. Young Kim. BC Card plans to implement card terminals which also accept smartphones and provide a more convenient means of payment for artists as well as citizens.

Also there are numerous events at the scene that citizens could participate in and enjoy.

First of all, donation-receiving card terminals were installed so citizens could easily share, donate and participate in the event, and to those who donated, they were given a discount coupon (ranging from KRW 1,000 to 10,000) which could be used in ‘Freemarket Saranghae’ events.

There were numerous booths across the venue that sold goods at a discount when purchased with a BC card, and to people who applied for ‘Freemarket Saranghae’ event on BC Card’s Facebook were given ▲ handcrafts ▲ 1,000 KRW discount coupon, etc.

Mr. Suh, CEO of BC Card, participated in the launching event and stated, “This event will open another cultural platform for artists to sell their goods. BC Card will continue to support artists and designers through diverse efforts.”

BC Card has been actively engaged in social contribution activities since 2006, which include supporting education and experiential activities such as violin, baduk(go), fine arts and so on for children of low-income families.
