Official Inauguration of Lee Mun-hwan as New BC Card President-CEO
BC Card (CEO & President Lee Mun-hwan, www.bccard.com) held an inauguration ceremony for its new president, Lee Mun-hwan, at the corporate headquarters in Seocho-dong, Seoul, on the afternoon of January 26 in the presence of some 600 executives and employees. During the inaugural address, President Lee proposed three directions for management : ▲ digitization of the payment process for customer convenience, ▲ expansion and reinforcement of the global card business, and ▲ formation of win-win relationships with small- and medium-sized startup companies. In relation to the digitization of the payment process, President Lee said, “The payment trends among customers are shifting from the traditional methods to digital services. […] Through our digital capacity using new technologies such as the NFC standards and the token and biometric authentication technology, we must present payment processes for customer convenience with our corporate members.” “The digital payment process should not merely demonstrate our capacity, but should serve useful to our customers in the actual market,” said President Lee, as he requested that the project be implemented from the customer perspective. This was a way of expressing BC Card’s resolve to emerge as a card company that’s highly sought-after by customers, based on its digital capacity and processing experience, as the number of payment types and technologies continues to grow. With respect to the global market, the new president and CEO stressed the need to achieve the status of a global card company and to change their view of the global market. President Lee said, “Just because the number of countries into which we’ve advanced has grown, it doesn’t mean that we’ve succeeded in our global business. […] Providing services that allow Korean citizens to make convenient payments in the global market and foreign customers to make convenient payments in Korea is also part of our global business.” BC Card became Korea’s first card company to advance into the global payment market by establishing a joint venture with Bank Mandiri. The company is aggressively pursuing its global business centering on the markets with high growth potential such as Vietnam, India and Singapore. The new president also stressed the importance of close cooperation. President Lee noted the importance of collaborating with diverse partners to not only digitize the payment infrastructure, but also expand the global operations. He stated that there is a need to spur efforts to create synergy to achieve mutual growth with small- and medium-sized startup companies, based on a close cooperation system. It is his belief that communication and cooperation can be means to achieve results. He also added that full support should be provided to allow small- and medium-sized startups to utilize the financial platform of BC Card and that all the executives and employees must consider ways to achieve mutual growth with the corporate members, client companies and vendors. Meanwhile, BC Card has been making a wide range of efforts to provide a convenient payment environment for Korean citizens including the continued efforts made toward mutual growth by sharing an original mobile card issuance technology that meets the Korean Industrial Standards (KS), free-of-charge, in 2016. |
