BC Card Sponsors Korean-style El Sistema, “Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra”

  • BC Card provides musical instruments to the orchestra, together with the Credit Card Social Contribution Foundation
  • Reducing the cultural refinement gap through orchestra education provided in Korean-style El Sistema (a free music education program for vulnerable classes)

BC Card (CEO and President Lee Mun-hwan, www.bccard.com) announced that it donated musical instruments to Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra, a music education program for young children and youth from culturally vulnerable classes such as low-income families and multicultural families, at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Gwanghwamun, Seoul on the afternoon of March 26th.

The event organized jointly with the Credit Card Social Contribution Foundation (Chairman Kim Deok-su) was made more meaningful with the attendance of Seo Jeong-hyeop, the Head of Seoul Metropolitan Government Cultural Division (acting President of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts), Choi Seog Jin (Senior Managing Director), the Director of BC Card Communications Office, as well as the new members and instructors of Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra who were given the musical instruments and the officials from the partner institutions. The violins, violas and other instruments donated at the event will be used to educate and train the orchestra members.

Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra is the Korean model of El Sistema, a free music education program for young children and youth from vulnerable classes in Venezuela. The program consisting of diverse activities such as orchestral instrument education and regular concerts is carried out with the aim of ▲ creating a sense of community among the members, ▲ building good character, ▲ and promoting emotional development.

This year, the scope of the program will be expanded to include 11 districts¹ of Seoul (previously, 9 districts) to provide even more students with opportunities for music education, and around 300 elementary to high school students will take parts as the orchestra members.

Choi Seog Jin (Senior Managing Director), the Director of BC Card Communications Office, said, “BC Card has been supporting the artistic activities of the members of Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra since 2016. […] We hope that with the musical instruments donated this year, the children can achieve musical growth and realize their dreams.”
