Make payments with only 'QR' and without a wallet

# QR payment is a payment method focusing on application of new technology currently being proliferated through the global market including China. It enables for convenience in making payments only with a smartphone regardless of the smartphone model, thereby eliminating the need to carry a wallet around. Now, all the BC Card customers can safely and conveniently use QR payment services which conform to international payment standard (EMV) specifications.

BC Card (Mun-whan Lee, President and CEO, www.bccard.com) announced that the company launched a QR payment service with international payment standard specifications for the first time among credit card companies in Korea.

QR payment of BC Card can be used in overseas countries since it is possible to enter into an alliance and can be made mutually compatible with global brand companies such as Visa and MasterCard as it has applied international payment standard specifications. Moreover, it is characterized by having outstanding security against plagiarizing and hacking through the use of 1-time payment information value at the time of each payment.

You can use it as conveniently as the existing credit card payment at merchants where QR Code reader is installed. Currently, it can be used at more than 14,000 merchants throughout the country, including GS25 convenience stores, Doota Mall, and Noryangjin Fish Market, with plans to expand the venue for its use to the entire 3 million BC Card merchants in the country.

In particular, without limiting its application to smartphones, QR Code can be used immediately without the need for plastic cards simply by installing 'paybooc', which is a convenient payment App of BC Card, and it can be used by any customers of the main financial institutions that issue BC Card, including Woori Card, IBK, and NH Nonghyup, etc.

In particular, unlike other payment services, QR payment service is provided on the basis of credit and check cards. As such, the existing 28 million BC Card holders can use the service conveniently without the inconvenience of having to be consistently remitting cash and maintaining a balance in the account for use of the service.

QR payment service is simple to use. At the time of making a payment at off-line merchants, ① initiate 'paybooc', convenient payment App of BC Card, ② select QR payment at the bottom of the screen and ③ scan the QR Code with the QR reader installed at merchants for completion of payment.

A commemorative event for launching the QR payment service will also be held. A maximum of 30% on-site discounts will be provided to all the customers using the BC QR payment service at all GS25 convenience stores throughout the country from October 5th to 31st when purchasing particular products.

Mr. Kang-hyeok Lee, the Director of BC Card Business Service Group (Vice-President), stated that, "It is now possible for domestic credit card holders to use payment QR payment service, which is characterized by greater conveniences and stability in comparison to the existing plastic card or barcode payment formats," and that, "BC Card will continue to develop and provide differentiated services that the customer can experience through digital innovation."
