  • 10.05Achieved the certification of ISO 27001 for ERP information protection for the first time as a Korean financial institution
    Achieved the certification of ISO 27001 for ERP information protection for the first time in Korean financial institutions BC Card revealed it achieved ISO 27001 certification in all company-wide information security for the first time in Korean financial institutions on 5th October . ISO 27001 is the international standard of information protection management system enacted by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and international standard for information protection management system comprises of 133 items in 11 areas related with information security. At the ISO 27001 certification award ceremony which was held in BC Card HO, President Jang Hyung-deok , Thomas Cooper Swiss Ambassador in Korea, Kim heung-seon President of Ahn Lab, Park Soon-gon Korea SGS and person related participated. BC Card achieved ISO 27001 for all website areas in 2006 for the first time in the card industry and made incessant efforts of preparing the perfect information protection management system such as getting ISO 27001 for all IT areas in 2009. As results of these efforts, BC Card achieved ISO 27001 in all company-wide areas for the first time in financial institutions and made a momentum of providing more reliable and safe services to customers through world the class information protection management.

    Issuing ‘School Card’ BC Card is issuing pre-paid card-based new concept of student ID card, ‘School Card’ for middle and high school students for the first time in Korea.
    School Card which introduced the adolescent card which are generalized in advanced countries such as Europe, which is achieving some of school violence and adolescent delinquency and providing discount and preference benefits at cultural and leisure activities to be used as a media of social supports for adolescents.
    School Card which can substitute the existing student ID can be used as a pre-paid card and resolved the inconveniences of carrying out several cards by filling traffic card function. Especially, parents may register daily use limit and use time directly and confirm use details by internet and SMS, which enabled to guide consuming lives more easily. Above all, administrative works for student management such as the electronic attendance of students, award and penalty scores, etc. may be interfaced by processing easily through School Card to support the advancement of public education environment and the system except for terminals are provided free of charge on demand of schools.
    02.11Signed MOU with ETRI to develop smart-wallet
    Sigend MOU for development of Smart-Wallet with ETRI BC Card concluded MOU for mobile credit card settlement and Security technology cooperation with Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). BC Card and ETRI are to develop a new smart wallet solution which can be used conveniently by holding ID card, credit card, various coupons, etc. in a mobile phone. It is a solution which performs point saving or discount coupon application at the same time by approaching a mobile phone to a terminal closely, as is using a transportation card.

    Achieved IT service management ISO 20000 certification BC Card held the awarding ceremony of IT service management ISO 20000 certification at BC Card HO while Lee Gnag-hyuk Vice President, Lee Jung-gyu Director of IT service HQ, Cheon Jung-gi President of BSI Korea and others persons concerned attended. ISO 20000 certification is an international certification which is awarded by evaluation of ISO for capabilities of performing IT service in accordance with international standards. The achievement of ISO 20000 certification made a momentum of enhancing IT service management level into the global level. BC Card plans to carry out advancement projects for expanding service area expansion and process internalization with IT operation service quality improvement an object to provide more reliable and safe service.
    12.03No. of issued Zhong Guo Tong card exceeds 1 million
    Exceeding 1 million card issues of ‘Around ChinaCard’ BC Card announced Around China Card which started to issue last March with tie-up of Inren, China exceeded 1 million issues by one year and 8 months. The keys of success is the generality, economic feasibility of reducing 1% foreign use charge for existing international brand cards, and diversity with which desired products such as credit card, check card, gift card, etc. can be used. Meanwhile a conference was held to commemorate the 100 million issues of Around China Card while President Jang Hyung-deok and chairman of China Inren attended.
    11.30Acquired ISO 27001 (standards about Information privacy solution) for the first time in the financial industry
    Achieved the IL information protection standards for the first time in the financial circles BC Card announced on 1st day it achieved the international information protection standard certification (ISO 27001) and domestic information OT standard certification (KISA ISMS) for all IT service areas at the same time. ISO 27001 is a certificate which can be achieved when 133 items of 11 areas such as risk management, information security policies, information access security, etc. are complied with and is the most prestigious one for information protection.
    Also the domestic information protection standard certification is a system of evaluating if the information protection management system of a company is properly established and operated by KISA (Korea Internet & Security Agency)
    While there were some achievements of ISO 27001 in some specific areas or system, the achievement for overall areas is the first time.
    07.22Established BCP(Business Continuity Planning) process and exercising training
    Constructed BCP for the first time in CI and performed mock exercises BC Card revealed that it has completed the construction of BCP(Business Continuity Planning) system which enables BC to recover core services even when the work is abruptly shut down by accidents or natural disasters. Almost all employees participated in the exercise operation on the 21st. Under the assumption that the computer system and telecommunications was paralyzed, a total of 73 key personnel in 23 departments quickly moved to BCP substitute workplace to resume the core services. The construction of BCP system is the first in the card industry and one feature that differentiates BCP from other systems is that it has been self-developed to analyze and manage operation risks.

    BC Hanji Card, won Grand Prize of service at 1st Korea Hanryu Award BC Card’s Hanji Card won the Hanryu Industry Grand Prize for best service in the Hanryu Cultural Business Conference. The conference was held in National Congress Library, attended by the former Prime Minister Han Myeong-Sook, Vice Chairman of National Assembly Mun Heui-Sang, Chairman of National Brand Committee Yeo Yoon-Dae, Governor of Gyeonggi Kim Moon-Soo. An official of BC Card said “under the vision the BC Card has as “Global Payment Service Provider”, BC Card will continue to produce eco friendly card products. Recently we have issued new card products made from “hanji” eco-friendly Korean paper. This type of innovation and also our contributions in pursuing global business in China and America have been taken into account when given this award.“
    07.07Opens ‘BC Card Lounge’ facilities for cardholders at Incheon International airport
    Open ‘BC Card Lounge’ at Incheon IL airport BC Card Lounge is a 200 m2 facility aiming to provide VIP cardholders comfort & relaxation. Business support and credit card-related services are also provided, the last factor differentiating BC Lounge from other lounges in the airport. VIP cardholders can help themselves to 28 types of foods and beverages catered by Walker Hill Hotel, use free wireless internet, borrow laptop, copy, fax and even make overseas call. Cardholders can also enjoy entertainment VOD service on large screens, newspapers, magazines. Power room is prepared for women and flight information are provided.
    06.26Call center receives both ISO and Korea Standard (KS) certification
    Achievement of BC Card call center ISO and KS certification at the same time BC Card received the ‘certificate of KS call center service’ from Man-Han Hwang, the Director of Korea Standard Association(KSA). BC Card call center completed the education provided by KSA, achieved the QM personnel qualifications and standardized the services by making a manual comprised of 18 regulations. Also BC call center has improved its working environment and established service operation system through continuous internal audits. With all the effort, BC has received scores above the standards set by KSA in a number of criteria including complaint management ratio and FCR (First Call Resolution), thus satisfied international standards and received KS certificate.

    Kick off of technology advisory group for the payment & settlement research institute for the first time in CI On March 19, BC Card held a ceremony to launch the BC Card New Technology Advisory Council at JW Marriott Seoul.
    The Council will play the role of a facilitator for the company, helping the company-affiliated Payment Settlement Research Center to develop new technologies and business models through consultation of IC card, Mobile, T-Commerce and electronic payment business.
    Their role will not be limited to an advisory function however; they will maintain constant contact with the research center and actively implement joint research projects.

    Hosted the 1st BC Card Cup World Baduk Championship BC Card held the opening ceremony of the 1st BC Card Cup World Baduk Championship with the foundation of Korea Baduk Association (Chairman Heo Dong-soo) in Intercontinental Hotel. President Jang Hyung-deok said in a brief address “BC Card holds this event with a view to develop Baduk into a sport more loved by the people regardless of difficult economic situations” and “would make efforts and provide support to make this championship the best baduk event in the world”.

  • 09.18Held a signing ceremony with the national merchant association to promote card use in traditional markets
    Held the signing ceremony for receipts of traditional marketplace cards with the national merchant association Now credit cards can be used in the traditional marketplace conveniently. BC Card signed a comprehensive agreement with National Merchant Association (Chairman Choi Geuk-Ryul) to invigorate and advance traditional marketplaces on September 18th. Both parties agreed to cooperate and promote issuance of purchase cards for merchants, issuance of affiliated cards and step-by-step business promotion. Accordingly, BC Card will begin issuing purchase cards for 250,000 merchants starting this October. * Purchase Card : Cards with specialized payment functions and general credit card functions, allowing cardholders (merchants) to use the card when buying products from wholesale dealers and when shopping for personal use
    08.06Issuance of ‘Zhong Guo Tong card’ in association with China Union Pay
    Issuance of China UnionPay ‘Around China Gift Card’ Issuance BC Card announced that it would introduce a new “Zhong Guo Tong” gift card for use both in Korea and China. Earlier, the company had issued Zhong Guo Tong (literally meaning “Around China”) credit and debit cards in partnership with China UnionPay.
    The card comes in handy for those unable to obtain credit cards, as well as those tourists and students in China where the card is accepted widely by member merchants. The card has another benefit in that the user does not have to pay a fee when changing money.
    Since the card, the first of its kind available in Korea, is transferable to anyone, it is perfect for a gift or for business use. The biggest advantages of the Zhong Guo Tong card are without foreign exchange fees, and it is accepted almost everywhere in China.

BC Card President Chung Byung-Tae (right) and UnionPay counterpart Xu Luode are switching on the lights in a giant credit card.

  • 11.16Signed the agreement of issuing debit card with Mutual & Savings Bank Association
    Signed the agreement of issuing check card with Mutual & Savings Bank Association BC Card said that it held a signing ceremony at the Seoul Plaza Hotel on the 16th to issue a check card on behalf of the Korea Federation of Savings Banks. The latest agreement will allow BC Card to handle all check cards related operations including issuing, transaction approval, and settlement for the 110 member savings banks under the Federation’s umbrella. The member banks will be able to promote the check card starting the first quarter next year. BC Card believes that the agreement with the Federation will help the company to increase the volume of card processing operations while boosting value for its member merchants.
    10.22Strikes an agreement with China Union Pay to issue joint credit cards
    Signed an agreement of issuing credit cards with China UnionPay China UnionPay is the only domestic credit card organization in China under the ratification of the People’s Bank of China (China’s Central Bank) with 1,200 million card issues form 190 financial institutions, similar to BC card. The signing ceremony was held in China UnionPay HO located in Shanghai, China and Choi Hee-sup Vice president and Chaien bo Vice Chairman of China UnionPay attended. Owing to this agreement, the tied-up cards became 4 from 3 (VISA, MASTER, JCB). An official of BC card said the company would initially target the employees of Korean companies doing business in China, estimated to be more than 1 million and would issue more than 500 thousand China UnionPay cards by 2009.

    Donation of 1st set of mobile red Bopcha for food market Korea’s first mobile food market was introduced by BC Card. BC card, Seoul Social Welfare Council and Seoul Social Welfare Fund-raising Council held a ceremony of delivering daily goods using the mobile food market vehicle, which will become the 1st store. Mobile food market is to deliver foods by visiting residences of users directly after displaying foods.

    04.20Begins China UnionPay CD/ATM cash withdrawal service for domestic-only BC cards
    Starting China UnionPay CD/ATM cash withdrawal service using BC Card for exclusive domestic use From now on domestic cards without international brand can be used in foreign countries. BC Card has recently made an agreement with China Union Pay in Shanghai to use CUP’s credit card network and opened a full fledged operation of the networks from April 20. Card holders with BC-branded local cards can withdraw cash using CUP CD/ATM from now on. After a MOU was signed between BC Card and CUP in 2004, BC card’s network became open for use by CUP cardholders and this year, BC and CUP has taken the next step forward. Use of domestic BC card in CUP merchants will be possible from 2007.
