    BC, First in the card industry to be affiliated with UN Global Compact (UNGC) in Korea "BC Card(CEO Suh, Joon-Hee, www.bccard.com) revealed on the 6th that the company is now affiliated with UNGC (UN Global Compact) for the first time in the card industry in Korea to play a role as a globally leading enterprise.
    UN Global Compact(hereafter ‘UNGC’) is a specialized agency started in 2000. The purpose of this organization is to settle numerous problems arising from globalization by encouraging companies to fulfill their CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility).
    BC Card has received the certificate of affiliation in the main office building, located at Seocho dong, in the morning of the 6th after becoming a member of UNGC for the first time in the credit industry in Korea, with Suh, Joon-Hee, CEO of BC Card, Yim, Hong-jae, Secretary General of UNGC Network Korea and other relevant personnel present.
    By being a member of UNGC, BC Card plans to fulfill its responsibility and role more thoroughly as a global enterprise and to abide by 10 main principles of UNGC regarding △ Human Rights, △ Labour, △ Environment, and △ Anti-Corruption, etc.(For more details about '10 principles of UNGC', see the attached document)
    In the event, Suh, Joon-Hee, CEO of BC Card, said that by being a member of UNGC, the company would re-confirm its willingness to fulfill sustainable management and CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility).
    Also, as he expected, it would have an opportunity to reaffirm its stance that CSR will be fully taken as an enterprise aiming to become1st in the payment industry in Asia. As a part of effort, firm has launched a joint project of credit card processing in Indonesia in a bid to enhance Creative Economy.
    He made it clear that the company would abide by 10 principles regarding ‘the protection of human rights, the respect for labor, environmental protection, and anti-corruption’.
    Moreover, UNGC is a special agency with which more than 11 thousand enterprises and groups from 145 countries around the world have been affiliated. 227 companies and groups including Korea Telecom are members of UNGC."

  • 12.10BC Card has been awarded a prize in the category of credit card for 7 consecutive years by NCSI (National Customer Satisfaction Index) by 2014
    bc card logo On the 9th Dec 2014, BC Card(CEO Suh, Joon-Hee) revealed that in the ceremony hosted by Korea Productivity Center for certifying National Customer Satisfaction Index in 2014, it had been awarded for 7 consecutive years in the area of Credit Card for the first time in the industry.
    NCSI (National Customer Satisfaction Index) is an index for estimating the customers’ satisfaction that has been developed and released by Korea Productivity Center and University of Michigan in their partnership. It is a model that can quantify and estimate the degree of satisfaction that comes from products and services that have been made available in Korea and overseas.
    More than 30 countries around the world, including USA and Korea, have used this index every year to evaluate the degree of satisfaction of customers for all the respective firms and groups. And it has been appreciated for its official credibility in estimating the customers’ satisfaction.
    BC Card has been well prepared for the process to reflect the derived results on the actual tasks from what needs to be improved in all kinds of services from the perspective of customers. Especially, it is 9 years since the introduction of ‘Customer Panel System’ in 2008, which immediately handles and solves the complaints from customers by hearing VOC(Voice Of Customer) on the spot without any adjustments.
    Also, it is developing a variety of activities for providing the highest value to the customers in Korea and foreign countries. Such activities include ▲ the export of financial processing to overseas for the first time in Korea thanks to the capacity of customer service accredited in Korea and ▲ the improvement of ARS in call centers by employing the application of the cutting-edge technology reflecting the customers’ convenience, etc.
    As a result of efforts to enhance customers’ satisfaction, BC Card has been evaluated to be excellent in the category of customers’ recognized values and qualities in NCSI test. Moreover, compared to last year, BC received a significantly better evaluation in the category of customers’ recognized values.
    As a vice-president in charge of risk management, Seo, Man-ho handles CSV.     Korean Service Quality Index (KSQI) is a measurement of service quality where KMAC conducts 100 times of monitoring tests on some 230 call centers over 37 companies across the nation to evaluate their service quality, and designates those companies and institutions whose scores are 90 or over as “Best Call Center of Korea.”
    The BC call center team has provided customized services and strenuously tried to understand our customers to improve their satisfaction
    At the same time, the team tried to improve the working environment to make a happier call center for the employees in addition to providing customer service convenience.
    Such efforts paid off. The center has been designated as a “Best Call Center of Korea” for 4 consecutive years in a row, and will continue to do its best to provide better communication and services for the customers.
    03.31“Oh! point” membership exceeded 6 million
    'Oh! point' membership exceeded 6 million The “Oh! point” membership program of BC Card (CEO Suh, Joon-hee) hit the 6 million mark in March 31, merely one year after its launching. As a service that was launched in April 2013 when the market was stalled, it presents extraordinary growth and sets a new norm of the point program market.
    Oh! point in itself is a differentiated service. It provides both discount by point and accumulation of point at the same time, that is called “Double Benefits.” It sets itself apart from other point programs that usually allow only payment by point (discount by point), not accumulation.
    Through partnership with KT, it allows members to convert their Olleh Stars (a KT point program) into Oh! point. This is well received by customers as well.
    Easy issuance has also served as a strong driver. Members can sign up the Oh! point membership ▶ on its website and application, and mobile wallet services, ▶ 25 alliance credit/check cards on 10 banks and card issuers, ▶KT Olleh Club Card on Olleh Club website and application and, ▶ 6 member-store partnership cards on their business sites.
    The program that acquired some 30,000 member stores over 80 brands within a matter of year is rich in diversity as well. Its services cover every aspect of lifestyle, available on convenience stores, online malls, cinemas, amusement parks, gas stations etc.

    BC Card officially appointed Suh, Joon-hee as its new CEO BC Card(CEO Suh, Joon-Hee/www.bccard.com) held the board of directors on the 25th and confirmed the candidate Suh, Joon-Hee as its new CEO. He started his first official schedule by coming to his office on the 26th, making a visit to all the departments without holding an inaugural ceremony, and greeting the employees.
    After being appointed as the CEO of BC Card, he sent a message to all the employees instead of delivering an inaugural speech. He made it clear to set the 3 main policies for management that he will △ prioritize the values of stockholders, △ create the synergy effect with KT Corporation, and △ transform itself into the happiest companies to work for, etc. and sent a request that they should make BC Card one of the best enterprises altogether.

He also clarified that he would expect to go happily together to the same destination by sincerely interacting with all of the employees and using all the knowledge and capabilities he had earned from 36 years of work experiences.
    Furthermore, CEO Suh, Joon-Hee is a professional manager who has made successful achievements in many key positions from strategy and asset management and PB business to e-Biz, etc. while working as a CEO or executive in various renowned enterprises.
    He is currently expected to be most suitable figure for restoring the damaged credit from customers caused by the information leak, suggesting the prospect for the new growth engine, and creating the synergy effect through partnership with the previous clients in the credit card industry, which is at the mature stage.

    CARTES, created in France in 1985, has evolved into a privileged global competition in the security and payment realm, and separate exhibitions thereunder have been held in Asia and North American since 2010.
    CARTES Asia 2014, held in Hong Kong, is participated by 18 companies that lead the payment industry, including card manufacturing, payment, security and mobile payment. They submitted more than 20 products and services and competed for three major areas (Advanced Payment & Mobile Money/Card Manufacturing & Personalization/Secure Identity). Among them, BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae, www.bccard.com) was awarded the Winner of the Advanced Payment & Mobile Money, beating 13 other products and services.
    BC mobile card platform was highly evaluated for ▶the variety of its payment services, including credit, check, prepaid and gift cards and membership points, ▶ compatibility to accommodate global card standards, such as Visa, Masters and UnionPay, not to mention the Korean Standards (KS or ㉿), and ▶ ease of use delivered by user-friendly UX and design.
    As BC Card became the first CARTES winner in Korea, this served as an important opportunity to present the excellent technology and innovativeness of BC mobile card platform.

The book is a significant milestone for both the company and the industry as it proactively shares knowledge and information about the rapidly growing mobile card market.
    The book was co-written by 4 mobile payment experts who are BC Card employees. They provide easy explanation about mobile payment by sharing their firsthand experiences and in-depth knowledge.
    The book is composed of 4 chapters covering the history, evolution and prospect of mobile card. Each chapter discusses ▶ the concept of mobile card and its convenience, and history, security benefits and development of mobile payment, ▶ payment standards and technology directions of mobile card, ▶key solutions for broader uses, such as M-commerce and transportation, and suggestions to acquire more member stores, which is a prerequisite for broader use of mobile card.
    M-Payment (Subtitle: Everything about mobile payment) is available in major book stores across the county and 4 online book stores. BC Card said “we hope this publication will serve as guidelines to encourage research efforts to further tap into mobile cards.

  • 12.01BC UnionPay Card issuance exceeded 6 million
    BC Card logo BC UnionPay Card, which has become Koreans’ must-have item for a trip to China, hit the 6 million mark in its issuance in 5 years and 11 months. BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae) launched the product in January 2008 based on the network alliance signed in September 2004 with China UnionPay.
    BC UnionPay Card can be used in almost anywhere in the Chinese speaking area as it is accepted by 19.6 million member stores and 1.6 ATMs in China.
    In addition, it has been appealing as an economic card that does not charge foreign transaction fees of 1%, unlike other global card brands.
    Currently, the product is available in 11 domestic banks and card issuers (Woori Card, Standard Charterd Bank, Hana SK Card, NH Nonghyup, IBK, KB Kookmin Card, Daegu Bank, Busan Bank, Kyongnam Bank, Shinhan Card, and Suhyup Bank).
    To improve user convenience, BC Card will continue to offer diverse promotions in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
    11.20BC Mobile Card issuance surpassed 1 million
    BC Card logo BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae) has issued 1 million USIM-based mobile cards. With the introduction of Korean Standards (KS or ㉿) for mobile to Korea in November 2011, BC Card became the leader of mobile business in the card industry with the largest user base in Korea.
    BC Mobile Card offers some 580 products in partnership with three telecommunication service providers (KT, SKT and LGU+), and 10 card issuers (Woori, NH Nonghyup, IBK, Daegu, Busan, Kyongnam, Citibank, MG, Korea Post and Suhyup).
    Some 40,000 member stores accept the mobile cards on and offline, including discount stores, convenience stores and all online malls, and the number is still growing.
    As the leader of the mobile payment market, BC Card will continue to develop customer services tailored to mobile card to provide more convenience and secure services.
    11.15BC Card won a Presidential Award for its environmental efforts, including BC Green Card
    BC Card won a Presidential Award for its environmental efforts, including BC Green Card BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae) won the Presidential Award of National Greenstart of this year for the first time in the industry.
    National Greenstart is a nationwide campaign launched in 2008 in order to cut non-industrial greenhouse gas emissions by national participation, and awards companies and civic groups for their environmental efforts by the President and the Minister of Environment.
    The 2013 National Greenstart, held in Daegu ExCo on November 15, was participated by major figures from both public and private sectors, including CEO Lee, Gang-tae of BC Card, the Minister of Environment Yoon, Seong-gyu, and Mayor of Daegu Kim, Beom-il. On this day, the Presidential Award went to BC Card for its environmental practice and efforts through Green Card.
    At the award ceremony, CEO Lee said “the Green Card platform is the accumulation of our 30-year experience and knowhow as well as our competence, and a symbol of our commitment to contribute to the company, the society and the nation."" He added, ""With this award, we feel greater responsibilities, and continue to offer more creative environmental products and services, including issuance of green mobile cards, so that the entire nation go green with our Green Card.
    10.11BC Card signed an agreement with Hyundai Department Store for check card issuance
    BC Card logo BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae, www.bccard.com) signed an agreement with Hyundai Department Store for check card issuance. This is an outcome of BC’s proactive efforts to discover bluechip partners and encourage participation of BC member institutions (over 1 million of card issuance), and is expected to become another mega-hit product.
    Four member institutions participate in the issuance of Hyundai Department check (Woori Card, Daegu Bank, Busan Bank and Kyongnam Bank). Combined with mobile platform and Oh! point program, the product contributes to the Company’s strategic business.
    BC Card expects KRW 88.8 billion in revenue for the five years of the contract period, and will continue to support BC member institutions and strengthen its ties with them.
    07.19BC Card signed an agreement with Hyundai Securities for check card payment processing
    BC Card logo On July 19, BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae, www.bccard.com) signed a strategic partnership agreement with Hyundai Securities to issue standalone check cards of the securities company.
    The agreement includes product development, PR design support, transaction handling, payment processing and member store service offerings for the check card.
    This agreement will help both companies to create new revenue sources and enjoy synergy effects in many business areas through long-term bilateral cooperation.

    BC Card proceeds with the service of 'specialized education and consulting' BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae) held a briefing session to explain “BC Academy” while the invited executives and staff from major financial institutions in Korea including 11 member banks were present in Seoul Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, the 9th September.
    BC Academy provides education and consulting services for financial institutions that are in need of information and knowledge about credit card. Both services are based on BC’s differentiated capabilities that it has accumulated over the 31 years of experiences, including business operation knowhow, its analysis on 26 million card members and 2.3 million member stores, and point service operation knowhow.
    Service of Specialized Education about Credit Card in BC Academy consists of ▶ Specialized Education about Credit Card ▶ System of Certification specialized in Credit Card, ▶ Publication of Books specialized in Credit Card, and ▶ Overseas Training Program.
    It also provides consulting services for financial institutions and member stores. Through this, BC plans to provide BC member stores and institutions as well as other companies with a systematic marketing strategy service regarding members, products and customer interface channels.
    BC Academy will also offer the consulting clients with Market Intelligence Service that provides market analysis (analysis and projection of domestic credit card usage trend by customer demands), product analysis (analysis on the product lifecycle and usage behavior), and detailed customer analysis services.
    With BC Academy, BC Card is expected to further contribute to development of the industry.
    06.30BC Green Card exceeded 6 million issues, officially within the shortest period
    BC Green Card exceeded 6 million issues, officially within the shortest period BC Green Card exceeded the 6 million mark in 23 months from its birth. BC Card launched the product in 2011 in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) to promote environmental practices of the nation. It is BC’ signature green product that rewards Eco-Money Points for members’ environmental efforts.
    BC Card confirmed with the Record Verification Service Team of Korea Record Institute that BC Green Card has obtained the largest members within the shortest period of time among public-private partnership cards. To officially certify and celebrate this, a “Ceremony of Korea Official Record Certification Ceremony for Green Card” was held on July 1 in the presence of key executives of BC Card and Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI).
    At the ceremony, an official from BC Card said, “proactive support of MoE and KEITI made the 6 million record possible” and “we will continue to do our utmost efforts to develop new green services and eventually provide greater benefits for our customers.
    04.01Started a business related to credit cards issued by Jeju Bank.

    BC Card will handle for Jeju Bank ▶use of member stores and transaction handling, ▶ receivable processing, settlement and post-management, ▶overseas transaction handling, receivable processing and settlement for international credit cards, and ▶ product services operation for the entire members of Jeju Bank (sharing the membership ledger).
    With this work, BC Card expects ▶ expansion of purchase market and enhancement of its position in the processing business, ▶ improvement of its influence over member stores and VAN companies, ▶ expansion of global platform issuance through Green Card and Jeju Tong Card, and ▶ contribution to Jeju Bank’s reducing processing costs.
    03.29BC Card launched “Oh! point” service, a differentiated point program
    BC Card launched 'Oh! point' service, a differentiated point program BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae) and KT (Chairman Lee, Seok Chae) announced that “it launched a differentiated point program, called “Oh! point,” that will lead point payment services by finance-telecom convergence.”
    "Oh! point" is a point payment service that provides both point accumulation and additional discounts at the same time when customers use their points at member stores.
    Unlike other point programs where customers must opt only one between point use and point accumulation, "Oh! point" provides point accumulation for the payment as well as discount by point at most of BC member stores.
    Customers can use the "Oh! point" service some 8,000 member stores in Korea, including CGV, Seven Springs, KT Kumho Rent-a-car, Sleepless in Seattle, Droptop, Seven Eleven, and Buy the Way, where customer make day-to-day consumption. The service is expected to expand to some 50,000 member stores within this year.
    Currently, "Oh! point" cards are issued in a membership card format with prepaid card feature, and will come in credit and check cards.
    Kim, Soo-hwa, who is leading BC Card Platform Business, said “”Oh! Point” is a premium point service that allows consolidation of different points and is provided in association with KT affiliates and BC member banks,” and “we will continue to develop and provide convergence service benefits in the mobile environment to improve customer satisfaction.”
    02.21BC Card launched “SH Green Credit Card,” the first co-product with SH Suhyup Bank.

This highlights BC’ differentiated product and service competitiveness to be used to improve the new customer’s card business.
    SH Green Credit Card is branded with UnionPay, which exempts the overseas use fee of 1%, and accepted by 9 million stores in 136 countries.
    BC Card signed a strategic partnership agreement with SH Suhyup Bank in May 2012 to support the Bank’s credit card issuance, new card issuance service, card product development and marketing activities. The agreement is expanded to cover internet secure payment (ISP) service, and SH Green Tech Card, and then to SH Green Credit Card, creating and increasing synergy effects.
    02.18BC Card signed a check card processing agreement with Credit Union
    BC Card logo BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae) signed a strategic business agreement with Credit Union (CU) to deal with CU check card processing. It is a total processing agreement that covers card issuance and purchase services as well as marketing.
    The fact that CU which has partnered with another player so far for the processing service chose BC as a new partner proves BC’s excellent processing capability, and presents possibilities that BC may attract other financial institution as its partners.
    With this agreement, the two companies will share business opportunities regarding check card, and expect to increase revenue from diversified product platforms, including Green Card and mobile card.

    BC Global Card exceeded 2 million issues BC Global Card exceeded 2 million issues within 20 months since its launching in April 2011.
    The card can be used in overseas without having to pay the overseas usage charge of 1% and its annual fee is as cheap as KRW 2,000 since it is not affiliated with global brands.
    The most notable benefit is elimination of the global brand fee (that customers pay global card brands, such as VISA or MASTER, for overseas uses) and global card charge (that domestic card issuers pay the global card brands for customers’ domestic use).
    BC Card (CEO Lee, Gang-tae), according to its own research, estimated that the cost saving for this year (by 3Q) increased as much as 250% compared to last year, and is expected to grow larger.
    09.14BC Card proceeds to ‘the modernization of infrastructure for payment on the traditional market’ in collaboration with Cheongju City.
    BC Card proceeds to ‘the modernization of infrastructure for payment on the traditional market’ in collaboration with Cheongju City. BC Card(CEO Lee, Gang-tae) revealed on the 14th that it signed an agreement with Cheongju City to build up first-of-its-kind infrastructure for payment in Korea that enables customers to pay with mobile cards in the traditional market.
    The agreement made by BC Card and Cheongju City includes △ modernization of infrastructure for payment in the market △ increasing in the customer convenience through a variety of means of payment, and △ various kinds of service by increasing the sales of mid- and small-sized merchants, which are designed to attract as many people as possible to the traditional market.
    ▲ Gained support from local governments to establish the first-of-its-kind infrastructure nationwide for payment in the traditional market
    The terminals distributed by the support from a local government(Cheongju City), the first of its kind in Korea, are the most cutting-edge units that enable customers to pay with their Korean Standard-certified mobile cards that are issued by BC Card. They will broaden the opportunities for customers to choose from many kinds of means of payment in the traditional market.
    With agreement, the traditional market is expected to lay the groundwork for a more competitive and sustainable place by moving forward further from the protective measures such as the restriction on opening SSM(Super Supermarket) and the projects of modernizing the facilities, which have previously conducted.

    Onnuri Membership Card in the traditional market is the pre-paid rechargeable card (with the bearer registered), a converted version from the previously-issued Onnuri Electronic Coupons(with the bearer unregistered), which can be used only in the traditional market and can reduce the burden on the mid- and small-sized merchandisers due to no additional processing fees on member stores when being used in the market.
    On the 27th September, Onnuri Membership Card for the traditional market is expected to be issued to the 4 banks, such as Woori Bank, NH Nonghyup Card, Industrial Bank of Korea(IBK), and Busan Bank, and to expand the member companies to be issued to in the future.
    ▲ Providing a variety of service to expand the sales of mid- and small-sized merchandisers
    As seen in the example of “Mega-hit Business Start-up”, the application released earlier September by BC Card, the company provides consulting services to the merchandisers on the basis of the data of analysis into markets and customers in the neighborhood as well as supports the marketing activities to customers with a variety of information regarding the traditional market through multi-channels like websites or emails, etc.
    For small merchandisers, mobile devices for payment based on smart phone application will be provided as well in order to save the cost of purchase and maintenance of additional gadgets.
    In the ceremony, people including Lee, Gang-tae, CEO of BC Card, etc. purchased the items by using Onnuri Membership Card on Yukgeori Market for comprehensive goods and intensively discussed the strategies for carrying out the projects for encouraging the use of cards in the traditional market and revitalizing the market on the basis of Information Technology like mobile marketing, etc.
    Lee, Gang-tae, CEO of BC Card said that the means of payment by various ways will make the traditional market grow on a sustainable basis with the aid of the strengthened competitiveness especially if payment can be made by modernized mobile cards.     The Korean Standards (KS or ㉿)-certified mobile card enables Emart point accumulation and prepaid card features by a simple touch. As it adopts the domestic standard of KS, it is expected to save issuance and usage fees that will be otherwise paid for the use of overseas standards.
    KS-certified mobile card has been recognized for its convenience since it was designated as the national standards in March this year, and adopted by nationwide convenience stores (GS25 and CU), and discount store(Lotte Mart).
    By adding Emart to the member store of mobile card, BC Card will further drive its mobile card marketing and improve additional services for customer convenience.

    In his speech, Lee highlighted “I am committed to improving our operating efficiency to the highest in the industry backed by finance-telecom convergence, and strengthening customer services,” and “we, BC Card, will create a mobile payment platform to open a new era of mobile card in cooperation with our member institutions.”
    He added, “The future card market will be evolved into a marketing-oriented market where real-time marketing is executed based on mobile card and Big Data analysis.

    BC Card signed an agreement for a business tie-up with SH Suhyup Bank BC Card(CEO Lee, Jong-ho) signed an agreement with SH Suhyup Bank on the 24th for a strategic business tie-up to increase business stability and boost its competitive edge in the card business.
    The ceremony of agreement was held at the headquarter of BC Card, located in Seocho Dong, where CEO of BC Card Lee, Jong-ho and President of SH Suhyup Bank Lee, Ju-hyung were present along with the executive employees from both companies.
    The details of the agreement are mainly concerned with the conversion of card-issuing service in SH Suhyup Bank, the partnership in the service for issuing newly-launched cards such as Green Union Pay Card and mobile cards, implementation of Internet Secure Payment into e-commerce, sponsoring development of card products and marketing, and service related to member stores, etc.
    BC Card and SH Suhyup Bank plan to make up for the deficiencies of each company in the credit card business, to actively cope with the ever-changing, future-oriented environment in the credit card industry, and to cooperate with each other for mutual development as much as possible.
    BC Card predicts that with the issuance of next generation BC mobile cards that meet Korean Standard ㉿ and Green Union Pay Card, an eco-friendly card product, it will realize the open platform to make a contribution to expanding the issuance of associated cards.
    The relevant staff at BC Card said, “by performing the card-issuing businesses that require an economy of scale, BC Card can help SH Suhyup Bank to focus more on marketing as well as reducing costs. It will boost efficiency in business.” Also, he added that, on the basis of the 30-year know-hows of processing the card business, the company would provide the best card service to SH Suhyup Bank.

    BC Card implemented Paperless service for the first time in Korea BC Card (CEO Lee, Jong-ho) implemented a No-receipt system (hereafter “Paperless System”) as part of its synergy creation project with KT Group.
    With the increasing petit payment and real-time SMS service in the payment market, paper receipts are becoming redundant.
    On the other hand, receipt-related costs have surged on the back of the rapidly growing use of credit card, and reached as high as KRW 270 billion last year alone. However, most of the paper used for printed receipts is imported, causing a concern on the national economy.
    In addition, toxic materials were found on the thermal paper recently, alarming consumers and member stores. The material is called Bisphenol-A, which may disrupt the endocrine system of human body and cause reproductive disorders.
    Against this backdrop, BC Card implemented the Paperless System BC for the first time in Korea. The system is an effort to minimize, if not eliminate, printed receipts, and selectively provide them where necessary.
    In BC member stores that adopt the Paperless System, customers will choose not to have printed receipts by asking the cashier or by selecting “paperless” on the electronic signature pad.
    An official with BC Card said, “we will provide paperless terminals to all BC member stores from July in cooperation with value added network (VAN) providers to populate the system.”
    On the 22th, BC Card also had an agreement ceremony to raise an “Environmental Fund from the Paperless System” by the cost saving thereof at the Coex Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul.
    The ceremony was joined by private and public figures, including, the Company’s CEO, Yoo, Young-sook (Minister of Environment) , Yoon, Seung-joon (Director of Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute), So, Jin-se (CEO of Korea Seven), Baek, Jeong-gi (CEO of Bokwang FamilyMart), Park Ki-jae (CEO of HiPlus), and Lee, Sang-hyuk (CEO of Sleepless in Seattle). Participants agreed to share the cost saving from the system and contribute to green economy with the environmental fund.

    BC Card was established as an ‘Association of Bank Credit Cards’ in 1982 to lay the foundation on which the credit card business in Korea can be grown, and constituted its position as one of the major companies in the industry in Korea with following achievements: 41.04 million members, 53.68 million issued cards, 128 trillion KRW for the amount used per year as of 2012.
    Moreover, it released ‘BC Global Card’, the Korea-based brand, in April to enable customers to use the card overseas without resorting to the overseas brands like Visa or Master Card; in July, it unveiled Green Card, of which benefits encouraged customers to lead a green life. Also, with the introduction of the next-generation mobile cards corresponding to the standard of Korea and optimized for the mobile settings, it proposed the new standard for mobile cards in Korea and made great strides toward the history of credit card in Korea.
    In his speech celebrating a foundation day, CEO Lee, Jong-ho stated that “I would like to express heart-felt gratitude for all the customers who have supported BC Card, the stockholders, the executives and staff from the affiliated and collaborative companies who have worked together with us and showed a steadfast interest and affection for the past 30 years.”

    No-Pin Transaction Opening Ceremony for China UnionPay Credit Card BC Card held an opening ceremony to commemorate the acceptance of China Union Pay(CUP) credit cards in all BC Card merchants. CEO of BC Card Jong Ho Lee, Chariman of CUP SunYing and Vice Presdient of Korea Tourism Corp. Jung Bo Sim were present in the ceremony. As for CUP, it is the only card company in China and has issued more than 2.5 billion cards. Although most Chinese prefer CUP cards to international cards due to its comparatively lower fees, this card has not been widely accepted in Korea because of its pin policy. Only those merchants who have had separte agreements with BC Card and CUP and have installed the pin-pad could accept these CUP cards. In the ceremony, both companies have agreed to solve this inconvenience by developing the system so that CUP cardholders who use their card in BC merchant don't have to punch in their PIN during transaction. An official in BC Card mentioend "The fact that CUP cards can be used in every merchant in Korea will contribute to an increase in Chinese tourists' visits and consumption. It will also singficiantly increase merchants' sales." Both companies revealed that after the ceremony, both companies will focus on marketing & promotion activities targeting the CUP members and BC Card merchants in Korea and China.

Also the discount services may be provided when cardholder uses facilities such as sports/ culture/ parking operated by public agencies or local governments. BC Card was appointed as the lead operator and issuer of Ministry of Environment Green Card last April 18 (KB card participated as an issuer) and is to take charge of constructing the required infrastructure to operate Green Card and issue Green Card through member banks. An official of BC Card “The Company is really happy to be participating as the primary manager and issuer and will use its utmost effort to construct the necessary infrastructure.”

    Release of the First Local Proprietary Brand with Global Acceptance – BC Global Card BC Card has released ‘BC Global Card’, a local proprietary card brand with international acceptance, and will begin issuing through client banks on April 5th.
    BC Global Card is the first local proprietary brand in South Korea, allowing cardholders to use their credit cards abroad without paying service fees to international network brands such as Visa and Master Card. This brand attracts customers with two unique fortes, one that it does not charge the cardholder with a 1% International Service Assessment Fee (ISA fee) for overseas card use, and second being that this card requires an annual fee of 2,000 won, equivalent to that of domestic use-only cards.
    Global Card is currently available in Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), SC First Bank, Daegu Bank, Busan Bank, and Kyengnam Bank. Other client banks including Woori Bank will start issuing mid-April.
    Customers can apply for BC Global Card by requesting BC Global brand on the existing card product. The cardholder can enjoy BC Global Card’s specialized benefits as well as existing value-added services applied to the original card product.
    BC Global Card provides services through America’s Discover, Japan’s JCB, China’s China UnionPay and Diners Club merchants and ATM network.     This agreement is a crucial leap for BC Card and the Korean payment industry, which has not had a significant breakthrough in exporting its world-class payment technology. BC Card has been providing end-to-end processing services for their member banks since its establishment in 1982. Based on 29 years of experience and know-how, BC plans to boost its global business in countries with less developed payment infrastructure.
